“We seldom realize, for example that our most private thoughts and emotions are not actually our own. For we think in terms of languages and images which we did not invent, but which were given to us by our society.” ~ Alan W. Watts

So many cultures, so many religions, so many faiths, so many personal preferences, so many versions of the story of life, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that we are all related and that there is no “other”. Sure we all have our own individual truths, but do we allow the fact that we have unique perspectives to continue to separate us? If we want to move forward unified in this new Love Paradigm, it stands to reason that our acknowledgement, respect and acceptance of all people’s stories is a good place to start; that all versions of our collective reality are worthy and in need of our Love as we are of theirs. Can we embrace, as valid, rather than demonize, the other’s story? Because to them they are as much the truth as ours are to us. Where is that coexist bumper sticker?… …And as I like to say either you’re with us, or you still believe there’s a “them”. ~ Now Share Love/S.O.U.L. “Invitation to Action” short film

In this Now Share LOVE Radio chat, Kip and Evan explore what culture is, and that no matter how different our cultural choices may seem to be, in truth, most share far more in common than in difference. To help them better understand how we can use culture to connect with one another rather than divide, they invited Now Share LOVE friend and expert in all things culture Brian J. Kenny

Brian J. Kenny is currently Director of Collections & Archives and Technology Manager for Hearst Western Properties. He holds a BA in Classical Civilization from the University of California, Berkeley, and he pursued post-undergraduate studies at the American School of Classical Studies in Athens and San Francisco State University.

He worked extensively with the Greek and Roman Collections at the Phoebe A. Hearst Museum at the University of California, Berkeley and with the Sutro Egyptian Collection at San Francisco a State University.

Since the conclusion of his academic career, he has had distinguished careers as a technologist, an Agriculturist, and a writer. He ran the Hearst Ranch Beef Division for Hearst Corporation from 2006 to 2014. He is also a baseball coach and an accomplished songwriter, bandleader, and musician.

Kip and Evan hope this episode will illustrate that coming together on a global scale doesn’t have to mean the loss of one’s cultural identity, but rather through the embracing and sharing in one another’s unique – although similar – perspectives of being, will help guide us back to the understanding that we are innately connected to all, and that it is really only our egos that are standing in the way of us remembering…
