[HTML1] Carol Channing is the beloved legend who starred roles in Hello Dolly and Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. She’s won three Tony Awards, a Golden Globe Award and an Oscar nomination; starred with Ginger Rogers, Julie Andrews and Mary Tyler Moore; was a guest on CBS’s What’s My Line; was Grandmama Addams’ voice in The Addams Family; and was inducted into the American Theatre Hall of Fame in 1981. Carol also merited an honorary doctorate in 2004!
Currently Dr. Carol Channing, along with her husband Harry Kullijian, is about getting important legislation bringing the Arts back into the public school system passed in the U.S. Senate…and interviewer Al Cole is all for it!
In Carol’s lovely and classic words, “We’re soooo excited! Rep. Jackie Speier (CA-12) was inspired by us to sponsor House Concurrent Resolution (H Con Res) 275. The resolution encourages that all elected officials and schools support the designation of Arts in Education Week beginning on the second Sunday of September. Rep. Speier garnered support from 101 of her colleagues in the House and the bill passed the House July 26, 2010. Since July 27, 2010 the bill was in the Senate and on December 22, 2010 (just before the end of the session) was passed! This is a wonderful start to our national campaign to restore arts education to all public schools. Please say thank you to your Representative if a co-sponsor of H.Con.Res 275!”
