[HTML1] Emily May is the Executive director of a wonderful, dedicated, and highly effective anti-street harassment organization called Hollaback! Hollaback is a movement dedicated to ending street harassment using mobile technology.
Gender-based violence is unacceptable, people. Hollaback has created one of the solutions, with released iPhone and Droid apps that provide a real time response to street harassment and map out the locations of the crimes on Hollaback’s newly launched harass-map. The apps have resulted in…get this…over 200 press hits, including the New York Times, BBC, and Fast Company. Plus, since the launch, Hollaback has had over 2,000 incidences of harassment reported and mapped to their site … And have inspired over 50 activists from 24 cities around the world to launch their own Hollaback blogs on iHollaback.org.
Hollaback has received over 500 press hits and has recruited over 15,900 Facebook fans and 2,400 Twitter followers. Hollaback is even starting to engage Elected Officials! They’re currently working with the New York City Council and Cornell University to fund a 2-year study on street harassment using data collected through Hollaback apps. The study is the first of its kind internationally. And with all of our help, it’s gonna work!
