Divorce is a life changing event for children and something that they did not ask for. It may be good for one or both parents, but unless there was abuse, it may not be as good for the kids. They will have to adapt to a new home, perhaps to new significant others in the lives of their parents, and to the changing moods of parents who may be going through a tough time themselves. The children of divorce need to be protected and allowed to grow up as well adjusted young people.

Mark Banschick, M.D. is a child psychiatrist and author of The Intelligent Divorce Book series, which helps parents navigate the difficulties of raising kids during a divorce. He has appeared on The CBS Early Show, the CBS Morning News and has been quoted in The Huffington Post and The New York Times. Currently, he is working with the state of Florida to provide an online course for divorcing parents, a project which Dr. Banschick hopes to take nationwide.
