[HTML1] At the newly opened XES (pronounced “excess”) Spa Lounge on Park Road, the purpose of an appointment isn’t just for relaxation – owner Evelyn Manson-Miller created the space with the goal of educating her clients in the best ways to take care of their minds and bodies. Evelyn splits her time between homes in Rocky Hill and Miami, Florida, with her husband. She wanted to bring the concept of a pampering lounge to Connecticut, explaining that these types of spas are wildly successful in Miami. Men and women get daily facials, massages and other treatments.
“In Miami, the spa is part of people’s lives,” Miller said. “It’s a way of life, of living, down there, for both men and women.” She said she wanted to bring that spirit to the area to combine “West Hartford tradition with a little Miami flare.”
The therapists at XES each have no less than five years of experience, most with more than ten, and update their training every three months. Services include massage therapy; Thai massage, a style of assisted yoga; facials and skin care; manicures and pedicures; waxing and threading – another style of eyebrow shaping that has recently grown in popularity – and even microcurrent therapy, a new treatment that includes anti-aging, scar and sun damage repair after its development to help heal battlefield wounds.
“If you buy a Mercedes, would you go to Jiffy Lube for an oil change? Your body is a Mercedes. It’s a luxury item,” she said, explaining that what you put into it is what’s going to make the difference. Having had training with a dermatologist in Miami, Miller applies that knowledge to the business and promises that no matter the skin type, “whoever comes through this door will be able to be serviced.”
