Dr. Jean Kanokogi, Ph.D, is a Senior Special Agent for the U.S. Government with extensive experience in conducting criminal investigations. One of Jean’s greatest influences in her life was her mother, Rusty, who not only fought for female equality but also had a prolific career in sports, which spanned more than fifty years as a competitor, pioneer, national and international coach and referee, advocate, commentator and promoter. In her mother’s quest for women’s inclusion in sports, Rusty founded, organized and financed the first Women’s World Judo Championships and rose to the rank of seventh–degree black belt — the first woman ever to do so. Rusty is considered to be the “Mother of Women’s Judo,” and Jean is a fifth-degree black belt in judo and a highly respected sensei, said to be the “Daughter of Women’s Judo.” Dr. Kanokogi joins Speak Up! to talk more about her mother Rusty and her positive influence on women.
