_John A. Koskinen

As the manager of transitioning to Y2K globally, John Koskinen feels many
of the same issues prevalent as we are experiencing with COVID-19. He gives
us a behind-the-scenes look at what really happened during Y2K. We are now
more dependent on information technology and part of the challenge is that
we don’t have a national response. It’s very episodic. We have to look at
risks and costs. If we wait too long, the problem gets away from us and
becomes more difficult to solve. Until we get the curve flattened and enough testing done to understand where the clusters are that are generating a significant amount of infection, it is unwise to congregate. He lets us know what the relevance of testing is and why it must be done. The longer we are shutdown, the deeper the recession. “The virus will set the timeline.”
