Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #359 Part Two is a session recorded at Singing Brook Studio featuring Mariam Massaro and Bob Sherwood of the Gaea Star Band with Mariam on vocals, acoustic guitar, ukulele, native flute and 12 string guitar and Bob on piano and congas. We begin with the gorgeous, summery “Let’s All Run Down To The River”, a paean to the joys of summer set to a breezy, skipping instrumental bed of piano and acoustic guitar. “Unraveling” is another summer song, this time in a driving minor with ambitious piano embellishments from Bob. “Early Morning” is an R&B based ballad that begins with a lush native flute fanfare from Mariam and is carried on shifting piano figures and Mariam’s inspired lyric. Mariam’s classic “We Call In The Elements” from the “Vision Quest” CD is taken here with an initial pass of Mariam’s ukulele and Bob’s congas and then an overdub with native flute, harmonies and piano. Next up is a medley of Mariam’s “Distant Star” and “This Is The Way” into a meditative, wide-open “Standing Ones Of Peace” featuring chiming 12-string from Mariam and Bob’s questing, innovative, jazzy piano. Today’s final number is the mystical improvisational tone poem “It’s Just That Way”, a darkly playful dirge driven by Mariam’s exploratory 12-string.
