Today on Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #333 we feature an hour of visionary acoustic improv with the Gaea Star Band, featuring Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, dulcimer, celtic harp and acoustic guitar, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on native drums and congas. We begin with “Ruby Red Squirrel” a negotiation of domestic arrangements with a red squirrel featuring compelling native flute from Mariam and a swirling series of piano motifs from Bob. The band slips seamlessly into the cloudlike, mystical “Can You Hear The Melody Of The Whispering Wind”, a showcase for Mariam’s lyrical native flute and Bob’s imaginative piano journeys. Mariam picks up her Martin acoustic guitar for the plaintive minor folk ballad “Song Of Passion”, a lovely air with an inspired lyric from Mariam. “Around The World” is another lush ballad featuring beautiful vocals and native flute from Mariam, followed by the powerful, spacious “Magnificent Sounds”, a lush, gentle, operatic piece built on a peaceful piano motif and steady, understated congas from Craig. Today’s final piece is the political commentary of “Every Vote Counts”, built around a rousing lyric from Mariam and Bob and Craig’s galloping rhythm section.
