Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #313 was recorded at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts and features songs by Mariam Massaro and improvisation by the Gaea Star Band with Mariam on vocals, ukulele, acoustic guitar, kalimba, native flute and zither, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and drums. Tracked live on a gorgeous June afternoon, today’s show begins with “Situtu Chanayo” Mariam’s epic tale of an African elephant in captivity and his ultimate attainment of freedom. “Taking Their Chances At The Border” is a soulful song in solidarity with immigrants in a trying social climate and “Big Black Bear” is a swirling, dramatic piece centered around Mariam’s lyric about a meeting with a bear. “Moon Delight” is a lush ballad with elegiac gospel piano from Bob and a compelling vocal from Mariam that eases into “Portulaea Diyo”, driven by Mariam’s thumb piano. We finish this afternoon with the gorgeous, mystical “Calling Us Home”, a driving darkling ballad that features an ever-more-driving rhythm section of congas, piano and ukulele and a powerful vocal from Mariam.
Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour with Mariam Massaro can be heard on Dreamvisions 7 Radio Network.
