Numinosity with Linda Morganstein

Cynthia Sue Larson talks with Linda Morganstein about the transformative power of humor, optimism, and story telling for coping with challenges in life. Linda talks about how each of us can recognize our own wonderful story, and how it contributes to the bigger picture. Linda describes how she adopts four different narrative voices in her new book, Numinosity, which is written in the form of issues of a fictional illustrated magazine viewing highlights of her life and family from views of a radical psychologist, a cultural anthropologist, and a pretentious film director. Linda talks about how we’ve always lived in troubled times, yet we can recreate our stories to find meaning in the bigger picture.

Linda Morganstein is an award-winning author of novels, short stories, and poetry, who is the product of a Borscht Belt childhood in the Jewish hotels of the Catskills. In the 1970s, Linda dropped out of Vassar College and drove a VW van to California, where she lived in Sonoma County for many years. Later, she studied creative writing with Jane Smiley in Iowa. She currently resides in Saint Paul, Minnesota. Linda’s newest book is “Numinosity: A Fractured Memoir), an illustrated book modeled on the iconic Life magazine, weaving together a single story.
