Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #243 features the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, dulcimer and baritone ukulele, Craig Harris on congas and balaphone and Bob Sherwood on piano. Today’s show was taped at Singing Brook Studio. We begin with a wistful and meditative ode to the sun and to Hawaii called “Soldaygo” and ease into the peaceful, lovely “Oh Mana Ki Yahey” which features imaginative, classically-inflected piano from Bob and fine native flute from Mariam. “Celebrate Diversity” starts with Mariam’s solitary baritone ukulele and blooms into echoing piano, coalescing into a mysterious and vibrant groove with the entry of Craig’s congas and Mariam’s insightful lyric. “Along In The Strands Of Beauty” finds Mariam strumming her dulcimer, her prayerful vocals trading phrases with her native flute as Craig establishes a dancing balaphone groove. “Snow Covering As Seasons Come And Go” is an epic journey of movements and moods driven by Mariam’s dancing dulcimer and Bob’s ever-imaginative and varying piano and today’s closer, “Sail On” is a smooth, peaceful take on Mariam’s song from her “Vision Quest album.
