Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #241 at Singing Brook Studio and showcases the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, native flute, celtic harp and acoustic guitar, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and balophone as well as special guest Amanda Potluck on vocals and percussion. We begin today with Mariam’s “Okinatay La Majushaho”, an epic of the sea and of preordained, divine love set on a Japanese island. Mariam’s compelling narrative is decorated with Amanda’s lush, bluesy countervocal as well as Mariam’s lyrical native flute. We dedicate “Oh May I Shine Like The Sun” to our veterans on this Veteran’s Day. A bright, folky piece unfolds, driven by Mariam’s acoustic guitar and lyric of hope. “River Of Peace” is a slow and mystical round between Mariam and Amanda over a strange, beautiful piano figure and steady, meditative congas from Craig. “Shelter Us From The Rain” is a prayer for unity and support among people that plays with themes from today’s previous pieces behind a moving vocal from Mariam. Finally, “Crystal Clear” is a sparse, minimal groove that drifts lushly through a series of movements featuring a striking narrative, chiming kalimba and compelling native flute interjections from Mariam.
