Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #234 features songs from Mariam Massaro and improvisations from The Gaea Star Band also featuring Craig Harris on congas and Bob Sherwood on piano. Taped at Singing Brook Studio in Worthington, Massachusetts, we begin the show with Mariam’s mysterious, prayerful “Circles For Life” a driving and compelling piece featuring rock solid rhythm from Craig’s congas and Mariam’s acoustic guitar work. A bluesy, modern piano overlay adds commentary to Mariam’s narrative. “Source Of Oneness” is a folky, acoustic guitar-led minor ballad which eases into the lovely, dramatic “Victory For The Rivers” featuring Mariam’s native flute and echoing sheets of piano chords. Mariam plays the baritone ukulele on the wistful “Choices Last A Long Time”, a beautiful melody with an achingly romantic lyric. “Rise Above” is a world beat jam with a rock ‘n’ roll heart featuring Craig’s dancing balaphone and Mariam’s driving dulcimer and native flute. We close with the gospel-like “Round And Round We Go” with Mariam laying it down with the twelve string acoustic against hypnotic piano and congas.
