Gaea Star Crystal Radio Hour #200 features the Gaea Star Band with Mariam Massaro on vocals, banjo, 12- and 6- string acoustic guitars, ukulele and native flute, Bob Sherwood on piano and Craig Harris on congas and marimba. Our first song today is Mariam’s folk tune “Covered Bridge”, a bluesy shuffle featuring gospel piano from Bob and Mariam’s driving, old-timey banjo. Mariam straps on the Martin 12-string for “Remember My Fragrance/Imma Mahi Ya”, a beautiful, Eastern meditation that drives through several mystical movements before landing in a psychedelic raveup coda. “Standing Ones Of Peace” is another song from Mariam, this one recorded originally for the “Vision Quest” CD and played here as an austere, mysterious minor blues that slips into a moonlit gypsy jam and fades away on clouds of electronics and echoes. Today’s final number is the rich, multi-movement “Collection”, distinguished by Mariam’s majestic, assured native flute and Craig’s driving, rhythmic marimba.
