Can you imagine going to the doctor, and the doctor wrote you a prescription to go fishing, or whatever else brought you great joy? That’s what Dr. Dean Shrock did with his cancer patients. And they loved it! Only to his great surprise, most of them found this too selfish. But, still, his patients were living much longer than those getting only conventional medical treatment.
Join us and our guest, Dr. Dean Shrock, to hear about the amazing wellness program he conducted for over a decade for a physician management group that hired him to provide psychological services for their cancer centers. You won’t want to miss hearing the fascinating results of his research and the insights he gained, which led him to conclude that Love is what heals. Dr. Shrock is the author of Why Love Heals and Doctor’s Order’s: Go Fishing. He was a co-author of the chapter on Mind-Body Medicine in what is regarded as “the definitive source in the field” for healthcare providers, the textbook, Integrative Oncology. Dr. Shrock also completed a post-doctoral internship where he developed a research proposal for the Cleveland Clinic to test the effectiveness of guided imagery with cancer patients. He interned as a staff psychologist with the Nittany Valley Rehabilitation Hospital in State College, Pa. While there he also interned with Dr. Carl Simonton at the Simonton Cancer Center where he initiated his research with psychological approaches to cancer care.
