Kibibi Monie’, a native of Seattle is the Executive Director of Nu Black Arts West Theatre the only African American Theater Company in Washington State.
She is an accomplished writer, actor, singer and director. A graduate of Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington with a BA in Communications, a Masters from the Seattle University and holds a diploma in cinematography from The New York Film Academy. Kibibi speaks with Sharon Riegie about Nu Black Arts West Theatre, a community-based organization promoting creativity by providing an opportunity to use the arts as a way of expression, motivation, teaching and learning.
Their mission statement is: “It is not the art, nor the music, nor the dance that makes the performance, but the imagery that each of us creates that makes the magic”
Nu Black Arts West Theatre reaches out beyond Seattle with humanitarian efforts in Africa designed to build a strong relationship between Africans in Ghana and Americans by linking our common threads.
