Andy Lopez, and Mothers Rise

My conversation with Elaine Holtz who is a radio and TV host in Sonoma County, California soon turned to her passion for children. On her website, Elaine asks the question, “Is it good for the children?” as a measurement for our decisions and actions.

Imagine her horror when she learned that a 13 year old Latino youth, Andy Lopez had been shot dead within seconds of a Sonoma County Sheriff Deputy call out to him. Andy, carrying a toy gun back to his friend’s home, turned at the call and without an opportunity to speak, was shot in the heart and then 6 more times.

Andy was seen as a leader, friend, great student, with lots of possibilities still before him.

Elaine asks the question, “What is happening in our communities, especially to our young men of color?” And the second questions, “Do others care?”

This is a rather long interview and you may want to download it to your audio device.
