Sharon Quirk-Silva is running for the seat in the California State Assembly. Her work as a liaison between the Fullerton school district and her community inspired Sharon to run for Fullerton City Council in California eight years ago. Since joining the City Council, she’s been an advocate for transparency, innovative thinking and collaboration, enjoying bipartisan support. She’s now serving her second term as mayor of Fullerton – the largest city in the district. When this new assembly district was drawn with a 1% registration difference between the two parties, Sharon decided to run for the seat to ensure that her community’s values and voices are represented in Sacramento. Her focus in the California Legislature will be on creating opportunities for good-paying jobs through investment in education and workforce training. Sharon joins Speak Up! to share more about why she decided to run and what it would mean to her, as a woman, to be a state leader.
