This is a show about metastatic breast cancer – how to live with it, how to avoid it, and the most recent tools for fighting it.
Dr. Gracer first interviews Lindsay Giannoble, a young woman who suffers from stage IV metastatic breast cancer, yet who lives an optimistic, full life. After this he talks to Shoba Kankipati, MD, a cancer specialist, about treatments for breast cancer and the need for early detection and treatment. They discuss the different types of breast cancer, including recent advances in typing and treatment.
More about Lindsay Giannobile: Lindsay was only 27-years-old when she first felt a lump in her breast. A full year later, at age 28, after being turned away from the hospital twice because she was “too young to have breast cancer,” Lindsay was diagnosed with Stage III HER2-positive* breast cancer. In spite of everything she has faced, Lindsay has continued to maintain her positive attitude. Now, at age 30, Lindsay and her husband, Tony, are starting the process of identifying a surrogate to carry their child. Lindsay finds comfort in knowing that cancer can be managed with the treatment of several different medicines.
Most importantly, Lindsay wants other young women to know that it’s okay to ask questions, especially if you’re young. Lindsay advises other young women to always trust their instinct and get a second opinion if they feel something’s not right with their bodies.
