Healthpoint was launched in late 2009 in Punjab, a province with a high amount of people living in extreme poverty and experiencing crisis levels of illnesses related to the lack of safe drinking water. Due to the shortage of doctors in India and especially in rural villages, healthcare delivery has been poor with very few diagnostic facilities and a lack of safe pharmaceuticals. Through a 4-point business model, Healthpoint addresses safe water, healthcare diagnostics, medical consultation and pharmaceuticals all in one building.
The Eleos Foundation helped launch Healthpoint with initial grants and investments. Jim Villanueva, Investment Director for Eleos, shares the history of Healthpoint and its founder, Amit Jain, who worked at the Naandi Foundation before Healthpoint and is the leader in safe water systems for India.
