Jane von Mehren is Senior Vice President, Publisher, Trade Paperbacks at the Random House Publishing Group where she is responsible for all the trade paperback lines within the group. She also continues to acquire and edit selective titles in both hardcover and paperback.

Before arriving at Random House in 2005, she was at Penguin for 11 years where she started as Executive Editor and became Vice President, Editor in Chief and Associate Publisher. She has also worked in an editorial capacity at Ticknor & Fields, then an imprint of Houghton Mifflin Company, and Crown Publishers where she started her career as an editorial assistant.

In the course of her career she has edited both fiction and nonfiction ranging from The River Wife by Jonis Agee; Hotel on the Corner of Bitter and Sweet by Jamie Ford (a New York Times bestseller); Dream Jungle by Jessica Hagedorn; Icy Sparks by Gwyn Hyman Rubio (an Oprah Book Club selection and New York Times bestseller); and The Passion of Artemisia by Susan Vreeland to Backlash by Susan Faludi (a National Book Critics Circle Award Winner and New York Times bestseller) ; Learning to Bow by Bruce Feiler; Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey; Kabul Beauty School by Deborah Rodriguez with Kristin Ohlsen (a New York Times bestseller) Places Left Unfinished at the Time of Creation by John Philip Santos (a National Book Award Finalist); How to Behave So Your Children Will, Too! by Sal Severe (a New York Times bestseller); The Planets by Dava Sobel; and Difficult Conversations by Doug Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen.

Ellen Sussman is the author of the new novel, French Lessons, published by Ballantine in 2011. Her first novel, On a Night Like This, was a San Francisco Chronicle Best-Seller. It has been translated into six languages. She is also the editor of two anthologies, Dirty Words: A Literary Encyclopedia Of Sex and Bad Girls: 26 Writers Misbehave, which was a New York Times Editors Choice and a San Francisco Chronicle Best-Seller. She has published numerous essays in anthologies, including The Other Woman, and a dozen of her short stories have appeared in literary and commercial magazines.

Ellen was named a San Francisco Library Laureate in 2004 and 2009. She has been awarded fellowships from Atlantic Center for the Arts, Ledig House, Ucross, Ragdale Foundation, Writers at Work, Wesleyan Writers Conference and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She has taught at Pepperdine, UCLA and Rutgers University. She now teaches through Stanford Continuing Studies and in private classes out of her home.
