Otolaryngology = Ear, Nose & Throat

[HTML1] Otolaryngologist may be a difficult word to pronounce, but it is a concise Latin term for a doctor who specializes in ear, nose and throat (or ENT) issues. When Your Health Matters host Christopher Springmann asks today’s guests to describe their job, Dr. Michael Miller, Section Chief of General Otolaryngology at Scott & White Healthcare’s College Station clinic, puts it this way. “Pretty much anything from the clavicles on up that aren’t the brain or the eyes, we deal with,” he explains. “We deal with any hearing or ear problems. Ear infections, problems that cause dizziness or loss of hearing. We deal with sinus problems, breathing problems, throat problems. Probably most commonly you’ve heard of tonsillectomies and tubes. We also deal with swallowing issues and voice issues.” Along with his colleague Dr. Troy Simon, who is Division Director for Surgery in the College Station Region, Dr. Miller talks about adult and pediatric throat issues, ear infections, sleep apnea, language pathology, and ambulatory care for ENT patients at Scott and White’s ambulatory surgery center.
