Considering Hip & Knee Replacement

[HTML1] It wasn’t that long ago when there was no surgical option for anyone suffering from the pain of a joint damaged through accident or overuse. Your Health Matters host Christopher Springmann looks at the alternatives with Dr. Bryce Allen, an orthopaedist with Scott & White Healthcare. Dr. Allen talks about the discussion he has with patients — both older and younger — who are deciding whether hip and knee replacement is the right option to improve their quality of life. “I generally tell people that I can’t give them the knee they had when they were 18 again,” he admits. “What I can give them is a knee that is painless in activities of daily living that will allow them to get back to most of the lower impact activities, things like gold, cycling, walking. And in some cases, we’re able to see people perform at higher levels.”
