You’re Move—Stay or Go?

[HTML1] Now that you have re-evaluated your commitment to your boss, the company, and your career and have a good idea of whether you want to stay or go, it’s time to make your next move.

Go back to your boss and ask again for what you originally asked—with more back-up information about your request this time. As an employer of hundreds of employees for more than 25 years, my advice is to be persistent and not apologetic. Many employees got a raise or promotion or whatever else they requested from me merely because they kept asking. A positive request, often enough, but not annoying, 9 times out of 10 will get you what you ask for. So keep going for it… Do not give up!

Whether you got the raise (or other items you requested or not), now is the time to revisit all 11 steps and honestly look at the big picture.

One more list is essential at this juncture: Draw 5 Columns on a sheet of paper. Each column will focus on a different time period…here you go:

My 2 Year Business Plan

  • Column 1 Goals, personal and professional, to achieve over the next 2 years
  • Column 2 Goals achieved in my current job as of now (the day I start my 2ybp)
  • Column 3 Action I need to take during the next 6 months to accomplish my year plan
  • Column 4 Action I need to take by the end of year 1
  • Column 5 Action I need to have taken by 18 months

Start today and put the new you into action. Over the months keep filling in your 2ybp (2 year business plan).  Ask these questions; who can help me? Should I reach out and ask a mentor to help me? Should I identify a coach to help me execute my plan? Track the actions you are taking and keep a smile on your face and in your soul—because you are making headway in reaching your goals with every step you take.  Just keep going and with each day you will build more self-confidence and that is exactly what you are after.
