May Summary of Socially Conscious Investing

[HTML1] Socially Conscious Investing started its first show the last Wednesday of April.  Our first month broadcasting has been fun and informative.  Here’s a quick summary:

  • Claude Dorais of Unite-to-Light shares their collaborative effort with Engineers without Borders and UCSB’s Nobel Laureate engineers to design, manufacture and distribute solar powered LED lights to areas of extreme poverty using a hybrid business model of nonprofit and for-profit.
  • Andy Lower of The Eleos Foundation shares their successes in funding for-profit enterprises that serve impoverished populations around the world.
  • David J. Neff and Randal C. Moss introduce their new book, The Future of Nonprofits:  Thrive and Innovate in the Digital Age.  They share their founding philosophy and three pillars for nonprofit success given the paradigm shift that has occurred across all business.
  • Carol Schillios, a women who travels the world helping establish micro-lending, founded Fabric of Life, a nonprofit that works directly with women who were, at one time, begging for survival.  Empowering these talented women to learn and establsih their own native arts businesses has changed their lives.
  • Larry Siegel of Safewater International explains the challenges of working with remote populations to bring them clean water, an act that can not only save lives but change their life-long opportunities.  Safewater International also works to blend nonprofit with for-profit distribution channels for their various solutions.

You may listen to each of these shows in greater depth by clicking on the links in each bullet.  This written and audio summary serves to highlight the conversations we enjoyed and point out where you may find your greatest interest and opportunity to contribute your own energy, ideas and money, when possible.

June 15, a truly special woman will share her experience with empowering women who are sometimes the “missing middle,” women who have established businesses that she is helping expand world-wide.  It’s a simple, yet elegant, solution in which you can directly particiapte.  Please take a few moments next week to hear what she has to share.

About Robin Eschler

Robin L. Eschler, the founder of Social Impact Marketing, started her career in developing foundational marketing strategies for companies of all sizes, from Fortune 500 to individual entrepreneurs and local businesses. She has developed and implemented international campaigns to launch high tech products and services and guided new business owners to successfully navigate the difficulties of growing a business.

Her life-long passion for helping others led her into nonprofit work for over a decade. Early on, she recognized the need for nonprofits to adapt to a rapidly changing world in which technology dominates and for-profit business practices are central to success. Her determination to help social causes in a sustainable way led to her creation of the Women's Radio show Socially Conscious Investing.

Impact investing in for-profits with a mission of social change such as the fight against extreme poverty is a blossoming business sector around the world. With the economic decline, it's clear that Wall Street requires change. Social impact investing addresses that need in a way that provides financial and social ROI.

As the Host of Socially Conscious Investing on WomensRadio, Robin's goal is to educate people about the growth of social impact investing and social venture. Interviews are conducted with socially conscious business experts including foundations and nonprofits, social venture investment firms, micro-loan organizations, investors, educators, authors and social entrepreneurs.

This show's mission is to help change the world through sustainable business practices that contribute to the economy, combat poverty, end hunger and provide better lives to all.

Twice, Robin has been recognized and received the highest honorary award that Rotary International gives, the Paul Harris Award, for service above self. Her community work has included developing local programs for disadvantaged populations such as foster children, troubled teens, and people with disabilities.
