Through services such as a member-to-member rights and fees  database, contracts and grievance guidance, and diverse educational programs,  ASJA membership gives writers the confidence and connections to prosper.

The ASJA: Giving Writers the Confidence and Connections to Prosper

Gina Roberts-Grey is a member of the Board of Directors of American Society of Journalists and Authors (ASJA), and she is the chair of ASJA’s 40th annual writer’s conference to be held in New York City in the spring of 2011. The conference boosts a rich line-up of more than 150 editor, literary agent, publisher and award-winning writer speakers. With an ‘How To’ theme running through every session and hands-on workshop, participants will get the tools to market themselves, break into new-to-them markets, hone their craft and so much more. More than 500 writers – in all phases of their freelance writing careers – attend the 2-day public event to network, rub elbows with editors and agents and catapult their career to the next level of success.

More about Sherry Paprocki
Sherry Beck Paprocki was quoted about personal branding two years ago in The New York Times. She said:  “If you don’t brand yourself, Google will brand you.”

In today’s Web 3.0 world, it’s important to know your brand. That’s the main point emphasized in The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Branding Yourself, which Paprocki co-authored with her husband.

An award-winning author and editor, Paprocki’s juvenile biography about Oprah Winfrey was named to the 2006 Nonfiction Honor List created by the Voice of Youth Advocates (VOYA). She has also written biographies for middle school students about strong personal brands including Katie Couric, Martha Stewart, Ellen DeGeneres, Michelle Kwan, Vicente Fox, Bob Marley and others.

Paprocki’s bylines have been published in Preservation magazine, Hemispheres magazine, InStyle, Time magazine Toyota advertorials, The Chicago Tribune, Tribune Media Service, Cleveland Plain Dealer Sunday magazine, Philadelphia Inquirer, Los Angeles Times Syndicate, Columbus Monthly, Akron Beacon Journal, Cincinnati Magazine, the American School Board Journal, Principal Magazine, Midwest Foodservice News, Country Living Magazine, PennLines Magazine, Ohio State University Alumni Magazine, Denison University Alumni Magazine, Home & Away.

She has addressed personal branding and the Web 3.0 tsunami at the annual conference of the American Society of Journalists and Authors, to statewide communicators and administrators at the Ohio Department of Education, to career counselors at Ohio State University, to student entrepreneurs at Denison University, and on various radio stations across the country. She is a senior lecturer at Otterbein College.
