[HTML1]Dina Ciraulo is a filmmaker who recently completed her first feature film entitled Opal, about the self-taught naturalist and cult icon Opal Whiteley. Opal will premiere at the San Francisco International Women’s Film Festival which will be held April 6th through 10th, 2011 at the Roxie Theater, San Francisco, CA. The film brings to light the fantastical life of Opal Whiteley, a young woman who was born in a logging camp and catapulted to fame with the publication of her nature diary and then to infamy when readers suspected a hoax. While the scandal has yet to be resolved, the film rides the tension between fact and fiction and presents a character who embodies the possibilities of both. Dina joins Speak Up! to discuss her experience of making Opal which will screen on April 8th, 2011 at 7pm PST at the Roxie Theater.
