[HTML1] Quick Quiz Question Time: Do you burn more calories in one high intensity, super charged, all out exercise hour or in the 23 other hours of the day? What if those other 23 hours are sedentary ones that are comprised mostly of sitting and sleeping?
In fact, you do burn more calories in the 23 hours of the day not exercising than in that one energetic hour. Imagine, therefore, if you could change your body to be a high calorie burner when NOT working out. The secret lies in raising your basal metabolic rate — the rate at which you burn cals at rest — so that you are a lean, clean, burning machine all day.
The other key is to look at making your one hour of exercise an efficient one that includes strength training along with your cardio. As you train your muscles, they increase their size and need to use calories just to stay active. So you use cals just to stay as you are (homeostasis) rather than storing them as fat.
To learn more about the effect of strength training on your energy use throughout the day, listen in to today’s episode. Invest 7 minutes to know what to do in one hour a day to rev up your calories burning engine 24 hours a day!
