Ms. Savage has adventured around the world learning, traveling to every continent before 30, learning from the plants and people. She is the founder and Chief Imagination Officer of Savage Designs, Inc.
This eco company creates clothing from wild nettles and includes a bag of wild crafted nettle tea with each purchase. Savage Designs clothing can be seen on episodes of Hot on the Trail with Sunny Savage. Each episode focuses on one plant, which is widely abundant and found over a large geographical range.
It is a road map to incorporating these delicious and nutritious foods most think of as weeds, as well as learning about their medicine/utility/history.
Host Sunny Savage incorporates local organic foods to compliment the highlighted wild plant. Foods are cooked over an open campfire, or using a solar oven.
Savage is a long-term locavore, and joined 6 others in northern Minnesota’s White Earth Nation for a one-year 250-mile Local Food Challenge. She spent 6 years as a yoga instructor and has enjoyed exploring what a healthy lifestyle is for over 30 years. She has a BS in Dietetics and an MS in Nutrition Education with her Master’s work focusing on the antioxidants of wild greens.
She runs Hale Paliku, a vacation villa and retreat center on Maui’s north shore with her partner Ryan and their 6-year old Saelyn. She is currently planning her next adventure, to sail around the world and make a documentary film, with her family. She has pirate ancestry, and is a descendant of Thomas Savage. Savage was on the second boat into Jamestown in 1607, and was 13 years old. He was involved in a political exchange with the Powhatan tribe that put him as Chief Powhatan’s adopted son and grew up with Pocahontas as his sister.
