At Larsen-Pomada Literary Agents in San Francisco, Northern California’s oldest literary agency founded in 1972, Laurie McLean represents adult genre fiction (romance, fantasy, science fiction, horror, mysteries, thrillers, etc.) as well as middle-grade and young-adult books. She looks for great writing, first and foremost, followed by memorable characters, a searing storyline and solid world building.
For more than 20 years Laurie ran a multi-million dollar eponymous public relations agency in California’s Silicon Valley. She is also a novelist.

On Friday, November 12th, leaders in the digital publishing revolution will join together at the Hilton Hotel-Financial District at the intersection of North Beach and Chinatown in San Francisco, for a full day of insight and education — the All About eBooks Symposium.
“Two years ago eBooks were considered a tiny afterthought by the publishing industry, but no one considers them insignificant any longer. Some large publishers estimate that more than half their revenue in 5 years or less will be coming from eBooks. That is an astounding change in a very short time,” said Laurie McLean, Dean of the new San Francisco Writers University (SFWritersU), sponsor of this symposium. That is why SFWritersU selected the subject of eBooks for its first live event to kick off its online and offline hub for writers.
According to McLean, authors need to know about the realities of today’s publishing technology and get a glimpse into the future of this quickly evolving eBook phenomenon. The All About eBooks Symposium offers this information all in one place, all on one day. Beginning with a brief historical perspective on eBooks and ending with where the market is going, the All About eBooks Symposium is for writers who are serious about their career as authors. Literary agents will discuss their take on the eBook universe. And it is the one place where attendees will be able to experience all of the eBook reader devices at the same time.
“This event is great for authors, publishers, literary agents, publicists, librarians, booksellers and anyone who needs to understand how eBooks are rapidly changing publishing,” McLean said.
More about Sherry Derr-Wille
Mild Mannered wife, mother and grandmother by day, Sherry Derr-Wille spends her nights writing and writing and writing. Having been inspired by an English assignment in her sophomore year of high school, she had never quite finished the assignment. New stories pop into her head every day with never enough time to write them all.
A Wisconsin native, she grew up a country girl, but enjoys her “city” home. She and her husband of over 40 years, Bob, live in a mid-sized town close to the Illinois border. Deeming Bob “A Saint” for putting up with her, she has never regretted marrying her high school sweetheart just two days after graduation in 1964.
Ms. Derr-Wille is the author of more than 50 ebooks and hardcopy books. She writes about romance, family epics and murder mysteries. She has been writing for nearly 50 years and yet only became a published author just 7 years ago when her first book was released in 2003.
Ms. Derr-Wille has consistently worked with e-publishers for her books. She has also opted to get her books produced in print and has been successful with selling them at various venues when she gives talks regarding the art of writing and becoming published or when she does a book signing.
